Dimitris Kouretas – Governor of Thessaly

Dimitris Kouretas was born in the Prosfygika Complex of Patras in 1962. He studied Pharmacy in Patras and then got his PhD in Biochemistry from the Chemistry Department of the University of Athens. From 1990-1992 he worked as a researcher at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Today he is Professor of Physiology of Animal Organisms and Toxicology and director of the laboratory of the same name, in the Department of Biochemistry-Biotechnology of the University of Thessaly and lives in Larissa. He works as a researcher in the field of studying the mechanisms of interaction of nutritional elements with the body at the molecular level, especially in cases of exercise. He has published over 230 articles in international authoritative journals. He was an expert in the E.U.

in the technological platform ‘Food for life’ for the period 2007-2013 and the period 2014-2020. His work in food innovation has been awarded in Greece and in the EU. In 2013-2014 he was Deputy Rector at University of Thessaly and since 2018 member of the Commission’s expert panel on chemical and nutritional crises. Since January 2019, he is a member of the World Academy of Sciences
