He initiated a comprehensive effort to engage the municipal administration in addressing daily operational challenges while spearheading promotional activities to highlight tourism and local culture on an international scale.
He effectively utilised available financial national and European resources to plan, develop and implement key infrastructure projects, such as the projects aimed at upgrading water supply and sewerage systems (DEYAK – Municipal Company for water supply and sewerage systems of Corfu), and the biological wastewater treatment plant.
He coordinated the efforts that ultimately led to the successful inclusion of Corfu’s Old Town in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
He significantly contributed to the global promotion of Ionian culture through impactful projects such as cultural heritage festivals, the preservation and promotion of traditional Ionian music and art, and collaborations with international cultural organizations to showcase the Corfu’s unique history and identity.

Mayor of Corfu
Jan. 2011 – Aug. 2014

He was elected in November 2010 as the inaugural Mayor of the newly unified Municipality of Corfu, which encompassed the former municipalities of Corfu, Achilleion, Palaiokastritsa, Agios Georgios, Thinali, Esperies, Lefkimmi, Melitieis, Kassopaia, and Feakes.
He spearheaded the challenging task of unifying the administrative, financial, and human resources systems into the newly consolidated Municipality of Corfu.
He advanced the ambitious waste management plant project to the final stage of tendering.
He effectively utilised all available financial tools, including NSRF, PDI, Interreg, and others, to finance important projects that improved the everyday lives of citizens.
He promoted the Municipality through the Network of Twin Cities.
He was elected President of the Regional Association of Municipalities of the Ionian Islands (P.E.D.I.N.), where he worked to strengthen inter-municipal collaboration and promote regional development initiatives.
Drawing on his extensive expertise in local governance he took proactive initiatives to support all the municipalities in the Region, offering tangible assistance as President of P.E.D.I.N.

Municipal Councilor – Leader of “Kerkyra na Zeis”
Sept. 2014 – Present

He was elected Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Corfu, where he provided constructive criticism to the administration while presenting meaningful and pragmatic proposals.
He was elected Vice President of the Regional Association of Municipalities of the Ionian Islands in 2019, continuing to serve the citizens of the Region through collaboration with all its municipalities.
He served as President and CEO of ANION (Ionian Development Agency), where he revitalized the agency, facilitating the utilization of LEADER funding across Corfu, Lefkada, Paxos, and the Diapontian Islands, and delivering significant economic benefits to remote areas, including small villages and islands.
He served as a member of the Organizing Committee for the “Corfu 2042” Conference, where he actively collaborated with specialized academics to design and implement a medium-term local development policy.

Additional Political Engagement

In 1998, he was elected Prefectural Councilor as the head of an independent Prefectural Electoral List.
In 2002, he was elected Municipal Councilor for the Municipality of Corfu and also served as President of the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Corfu (D.E.Y.A.K.).
In 2004, he assumed the role of President of the Sanitation Association.
He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece – Corfu Division and has been elected twice to its local representative body.
He has served as a board member of the Association of Engineers – Freelancers of Corfu and the Secondary Architectural Committee of the Ionian Islands.
Politically, he has been actively involved as a regular member of New Democracy party, serving for two years as President of the local New Democracy Committee in Corfu and as a member of the Prefectural Administrative Committee for four consecutive terms.

Personal Information

Ioannis Trepeklis studied Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Rome and later settled in Corfu, where he married fellow architect Eleni Loutsi. Together, they have a daughter and a son.
Since 1983, he has operated a Technical Office in Corfu, where he is professionally active (neither his office nor he personally undertakes public works).
– He is a member of the local Archaeological Council.
– He has served as President of the A.O. Corfu football team.
– He has also been a board member of the Corfu Port Authority.
