Governor of the Region of Western Greece – Nektarios Farmakis

Nektarios Farmakis is the Governor of the Region of Western Greece since 2019, while he has been involved in Regional Government politics since 2010.
On 18 December 2023, he was sworn in as Regional Governor for the second consecutive time and took office on 1 January 2024, after winning the regional elections of October 2023 with a percentage approaching 60%.
In the 2019 regional elections, he won the second round with 56.38% of the vote. He was sworn in as Regional Governor of Western Greece on 29 August 2019.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Greek Regions and Chairman of the Digital Governance Committee of the Union of Greek Regions, while he participated as a full member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
In the May 2014 regional elections, he was a candidate for Deputy Regional Governor of Aitoloakarnania , where combination came first in votes with 52.5%.
In 2010, at the age of 30, he was elected as the first regional councillor in Aitoloakarnania.
He studied at the Law School of the Democritus University of Thrace and at the same Law School he completed a postgraduate course in Civil Procedural Law. He practiced law as a lawyer, as a lawyer before the Supreme Court, from 2006 until his election as a Regional Governor in 2019. He is a member of the Agrinio Bar Association.
He is married to the lawyer Evi Chr. He is married to Eirina Pappas, a lawyer.
He is father of two children, Areti and Thanasis.
